Healthy Nuts and Seeds

NUTS and SEEDS:

Almonds:
Classified as a nut, almonds are actually the seed of the fruit of an almond tree. They offer a delicate and mild flavor to dishes and can be added to vegetables, meats, fruits and desserts.

Eating twelve almonds per day can provide you with the recommended daily allowance of essential fatty acids. Almonds are rich in potassium and are considered a "good" fat. These fruit seeds are high in calories, so limit your intake to no more than twelve per day. Unblanched almonds are considered to be the healthiest choice. Avoid dry roasted almonds or almonds covered in sugar, honey or salt.

Brazil nuts:
Brazil nuts contain all the essential amino acids, making them a complete protein. Brazil nuts contain exceptionally high levels of selenium; a powerful antioxidant that can help reduce the risk of heart disease and cancer.

Brazil nuts are an excellent source of zinc, which is essential to digestion and metabolism. Brazil nuts contain a high level of fat and should not be consumed more than three times per week. One serving equals eight nuts and is equivalent to 30 grams of fat.

Chestnuts:
These nuts pack a wallop of beneficial carbohydrates, making them an excellent choice for people trying to gain weight. Chestnuts are cholesterol-free, low in sodium, and a good source of dietary fiber.
Additionally, chestnuts contain small amounts of vitamin C, thiamine, and riboflavin. Although chestnuts are considered a "good" fat, they should not be consumed more than four times per week. One serving of chestnuts equal five whole nuts. It's best to roast chestnuts at home by baking them at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for approximately 5-6 minutes.

Pumpkin seeds:
Research shows pumpkin seeds to be effective in lowering cholesterol levels, promoting prostate health, and supporting the function of the immune system. Pumpkin seeds are a rich source of potassium, omega-3 fatty acids and zinc. One and one-half ounces of pumpkin seeds can provide over one-third of an adult's daily zinc requirements. However, pumpkin seeds are high in calories and should be eaten in moderation. Limit consumption to no more than three times weekly.

Sunflower seeds:
One of the most popular seeds consumed, sunflower seeds are rich in vitamin E and known to reduce the risk of heart disease and cancer. Studies have also shown them effective in guarding against cataracts. Experts recommend eating two tablespoons of sunflower seeds each day. Doing so will double your intake of vitamin E. However, they are high in calories and should be eaten in limited quantities.

Quit Smoking - Another attempt

Whenever anybody see a warning sign or threat usually they would not dare to do anything but still there are few instances where humans who are mentally and physically sound would still dare to do them.
Wondering what they are and who are they...
Yes I am talking about the smoker, drunkards... they know it's not good for health and there is waste of money, time, health and still they would go behind them.
How funny?
Many attempts were made to reduce number of smokers but not so effective. I thought let me give a try, who knows who get inspired by what and at what time... I am just embedding a document "Stop Smoking" which highlights the disadvantages of smoking (mind you they is nothing new, these are very common and everybody knows about them)

Hope this try would be of some help and I would be very glad if it makes some effect among the smokers.

Brain damaging habits

I am busy today, I can't think of breakfast now ...

I am free today, Let me have food till the neck point ...

I am tensed, let me have one puff ...

Just watch out and be careful when you are going to make such statements from now on. Little we know how these habits are going to affect our life/healthy body in the long run.
I am sure nobody would like to do this to their body, what requires is the awareness on the hazards of such habits.

1. No Breakfast
People who do not take breakfast are going to have a lower blood sugar level.
This leads to an insufficient supply of nutrients to the brain causing brain degeneration.

2. Overeating
It causes hardening of the brain arteries, leading to a decrease in mental power.

3. Smoking
It causes multiple brain shrinkage and may lead to Alzheimer disease.

4. High Sugar consumption
Too much sugar will interrupt the absorption of proteins and nutrients causing malnutrition and may interfere with brain development.

5. Air Pollution
The brain is the largest oxygen consumer in our body. Inhaling polluted air decreases the supply of oxygen to the brain, bringing about a decrease in brain efficiency.

6. Sleep Deprivation
Sleep allows our brain to rest. Long term deprivation from sleep will accelerate the death of brain cells.

7. Head covered while sleeping
Sleeping with the head covered, increases the concentration of carbon dioxide and decrease concentration of oxygen that may lead to brain damaging effects.

8. Working your brain during illness
Working hard or studying with sickness may lead to a decrease in effectiveness of the brain as well as damage the brain.

9. Lacking in stimulating thoughts
Thinking is the best way to train our brain, lacking in brain stimulation thoughts may cause brain shrinkage.

10. Talking Rarely
Intellectual conversations will promote the efficiency of the brain

I hope after reading this you won't be the same. Start putting them in to practice....

You are what you eat - Eat u'r way 2 Health

There is an adage that stresses the significance of the balanced diet. Foods that we eat control our thoughts which control our mind, which controls our actions, and actions help us to become what we are.
That is the importance given to the food. Gone were the days where individuals used to spare enough time for eating delicious/well cooked food. In the current generation people are ready to save time by cutting down their lunch/dinner time. That is the reason you find more fast food centers.
People are forgetting that by cutting down their time spent of food, they really cutting down their stay at this beautiful place called earth. Whatever may be the scenario we still need to provide a balanced diet to our body.
I found an interesting article which says Eat Your Way to Health
I am embedding this article which is worth reading and following:

Food for Mind:
Avoid fruit and nuts. You are what you eat. ~Jim Davis
The belly rules the mind. ~Spanish Proverb
Food is an important part of a balanced diet. ~Fran Lebowitz
If junk food is the devil, then a sweet orange is as scripture. ~Audrey Foris
The more you eat, the less flavor; the less you eat, the more flavor. ~Chinese Proverb
He that eats till he is sick must fast till he is well. ~English Proverb
Tell me what you eat, I'll tell you who you are. ~Anthelme Brillat-Savarin

Kaizen 4: Neck & Shoulder Exercises

Once we start practicing the simple exercise mentioned in post Kaizen3 surely our hands would have got enough relief. Let us move on to other important parts that too requires some exercise/movement.
Back and Shoulder Exercises

Stand up straight, place your right hand on your left shoulder and move your head back gently. Do the same thing for the right shoulder
Head and Neck Exercises

Move head sideways from left to right and back to left

Move head backwards and then forward

Kaizen 3: Hand Exercises

I hope the previous post was quite useful, and I would like to give away few exercise tips for the benefit of those who spend a lot of time in their office chairs. The key point is that we need to do some exercises that keep up the movement of the body ensuring proper blood flow. After all the blood is the carrier of the oxygen to every minute part of the body.

  • One of the biggest injury risk factors is static posture.
  • Try to spend at least 5 minutes every hour away from your computer.
  • Remember to ONLY stretch to the point of mild tension.
  • Try to incorporate the stretches into your daily routine.
  • Below are some illustrations of simple active stretches to perform at the office.
  • Hand Exercises
Tightly clench your hand into a fist and release, fanning out the fingers. Repeat 3 times

These are simple exercise that do not take much time. You can do it sitting on you chair.

I will also show some exercises related to neck and shoulder too!
